FROM ARTIST TO ILLUSTRATOR
How “A Girl Named October” came to be.
Andrea Tripke, the illustrator of the children’s picture book “A Girl Named October” will take you on her journey from being a hobby artist to a published children’s book illustrator. With the help of actual sketches and paintings from the work process “A Girl Named October” she will explain how she came up with illustration ideas and prepared for the final paintings.
Besides guidelines on how to approach and hopefully interest a publisher as well as resources that might help building an illustrations career will be part of the presentation.

Andrea Tripke, the illustrator of the children’s picture books “A Girl Named October” and “Selfie the Elfie” will take you on her journey from being a hobby artist to a professional illustrator. With the help of sketches and paintings from the work process “A Girl Named October” Andrea will cover design ideas, page layouts, choosing reference material, creating moods through color choices, and other aspects of illustration.

Draw Your Own Picture Book.
Did you ever want to illustrate a
children’s picture book? Who better than a professional children’s book
illustrator to show us how? Our teacher Andrea Tripke, illustrator of A Girl
Named October and Selfie the Elfie, earned a degree in Fine Arts from Columbus
College of Art & Design and works as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer
in Melbourne. Andrea will show us how to capture and launch an idea, design
and sketch the cover of a book, and move to the final painting using colored
pencils and acrylics. $5 charge for materials.

warrior, king, knight, fairy or whatever you can imagine, using tiny flower pots,
